Their bodies might have been broken but nothing could break their souls. 5 dogs were found with severe malnutrition, evidence that they had been being used for a fight ring, and chained up outside on a rural property. It’s something we have seen before and it’s these kinds of stories that hang heavy on our hearts. Their salvation came in part from two rescue pilots who flew down to offer them a second chance under the wings of our rescue plane.
No Dog Left Behind Pilots Pete Lehmann and Rebecca Mihalcik flew to Maryland on a cold, cloudy, and breezy day to meet the team from the Morgan County Animal Control who seized these animals from horrific conditions. Dogs that you would think would be distrustful of humans lit up when they were placed into the arms of our pilots. Their souls indeed were intact and the love they showed us masked the sadness we felt when we heard their story. All 5 were flown to Pittsburgh and taken to our friends at Animal Friends where they will get the care they need.
Todays mission was done in honor of Joyce Fienberg, Richard Gottfried, Rose Mallinger, Jerry Rabinowitz, Cecil Rosenthal, David Rosenthal, Bernice Simon, Sylvan Simon, Daniel Stein, Melvin Wax, Irving Younger, the First Responders, the injured, and the congregation of Tree of Life. Finally, this mission is done in honor of Pittsburgh and its people. We are lucky to live in a city of amazing people who show so much empathy and love for each other. #pittburghstrong
