For complicated missions we call in the Disaster Relief and Rescue Team or Team DIRT as we like to call them. Landpilots Teresa Gamble, Ralph Harlan Jr, and Mindy Wirick are on the home stretch of a mission that left Pittsburgh on Thursday night. The trio took the Disaster Relief and Rescue Trailer to Sarasota, FL late Thursday and arrived around dinnertime on Friday. After spending the night they first went to the Humane Society of Sarasota to get 7 S. Korean meat farm victims who came to the United States on a mission with the Humane Society International. We have had a lot of experience with these animals and when we heard that there were 7 in Florida who needed a fresh start we jumped at the chance to help them. All 7 will come back to Pennsylvania with us and go to a private shelter.

After loading up the 7 Tosas the team headed to the St. Lucie International Airport in Ft Pierce where one of the last air missions coming out of Puerto Rico was scheduled to land. As you may have seen the island is shutting off animal rescue flights until things are more settled on the island. While we are heartbroken by this policy, we are respectful of the decision and look forward to the policy being revised in the next few months. These animals were flown in by our friends at North Shore Animal League America and we were happy to work with them on getting these last animals out of danger. 7 Golden’s came with us and are on their way to the Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue.

Teresa, Ralph, and Mindy all did an incredible job over these last few days. Its no easy feat to spend days on the road in a small truck. Time and again No Dog Left Behind volunteers shine in a way that can’t help but put a smile on your face. This mission was incredibly complex and required a ton of resources. From now through Dec 31 we have a donor who is matching all donations up to $50,000!!! Please consider making a donation. You donation will be doubled by our incredible donor!!!!
