35 animals, victims of the Hurricane Irma devastation, wake up this morning with a second chance thanks to No Dog Left Behind Landpilots Teresa Gamble, Mindy Wirick, and Jason Potter. Servere flooding wiped out shelters in Gainsvill, FL and without safe transport these animals had run out of options. Alachua County Humane Society reached out to our team and in an instant we had our Disaster Relief and Rescue Team assembled.
Teresa, Mindy, and Jason made the day long drive to Florida from Pittsburgh late Friday night. We had a hotel room waiting for them in Florida but when they arrived they called us and said they just wanted to go straight through. Wow. After taking turns sleeping in the back of the truck the three of them powered through and did a drive to Florida and back pretty much without a break. 35 dogs are forever grateful for their incredible sacrifice and dedication.
All 35 made it to Pittsburgh yesterday morning where 4 local shelters, Animal Friends, The Animal Friends of Westmoreland, Angel Ridge Animal Rescue, an South Hills Pet Rescue and Resort met the team to take possession of these incredible dogs. It has been a whirlwind few weeks trying to keep up with these storms but one thing has remained constant, the dedication of our volunteers and the amazing shelter support we have received. Placing these animals pretty much as we were driving back is no easy task and we are grateful that our local shelters have been so supportive. Teamwork. It takes teamwork to hep animals and when we work together amazing things can happen.
