At around 1:30 am the first team arrived back in Pittsburgh with 11 dogs that were evacuated out of the path of Hurricane Dorian. Landpilots Brittany Lewkowicz and Emily Lewkowicz spent the entire day driving the No Dog Left Behind Landplane back from the Charleston Animal Society.
With Hurricane Dorian intensifying in strength the team headed back with the first wave of animals while the second team waited behind in South Carolina as more animals are incoming to the staging site. These first 11 will be going to Animal Friends and Senior Hearts Rescue & Renewal.
Brittany and Emily are exhausted but even upon reaching Pittsburgh in the middle of the night after a whirlwind 24 hours they are asking us when they can go back. Landpilots David Stash and Kim Schaeffer are loading animals this morning and we anticipate them returning sometime tonight.
Yesterday we had all of our assets in the field scrambling to conduct Hurricane Dorian rescue missions while keeping up with our regular rescue missions at the same time. We are so proud of everyone at No Dog Left Behind for their incredible commitment to making all of this happen. Great work everyone. Round one completed.
