28 dogs from 4 different shelters in Kentucky made the journey to 5 different rescues in PA and NY thanks to Landpilots Andrew Morsillo and Carolyn Jochymek. We got the desperate call a few days ago and at the last minute a special team left late on Friday. After spending the night in Morehead, Kentucky Andrew and Carolyn woke up and began the process of preparing to give a second chance to 28 dogs.
There is a long list of sending shelters, Morgan County Animal Shelter, West Liberty, Kentucky, Wolfe County Animal Shelter, Wags 2 Riches Dog Rescue, Tri-County Animal Shelter – Clearfield, Ky, and a long list of receiving shelters! Cross Your Paws Rescue, All But Furgotten, Paws Across Pittsburgh and Pals4Pets Rescue Inc! What a team effort! And speaking of teams there is a rumor circulating among the dogs on the Landplane that there were 2 puppies on board who are contenders in this year’s Puppy Bowl! Only the dogs know who they are and they are not talking! Stay tuned and watch for them on national TV!!
Every mission is special but this one was extra special as it was in memory of a mother and brother, Lorraine Chinnery and Andrew Balee, lost within just a few months of each other, leaving behind a good friend and volunteer of No Dog Left Behind Susan Balee. In Susan’s words, “My family’s many dogs were strays we took in. My mother’s last dog she found abandoned by a dumpster. Andrew was a tender man, beloved by all animals, and a caretaker of them” Andrew was 59 and Lorraine was 83 when they passed away in 2017. Our staff and volunteers kept them in mind as they made the journey and we are thinking of our dear friend Susan.
