26 dogs overcame weather delays, frozen shelter pipes and a four day postponement but are on their way to a second chance and a new beginning with the Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue Team. PAART Pilots Kate Blakley and Cara Giannanandrea have been on the road for 10 plus hours to give these animals something they deserve but have been missing, hope.
It takes a village. Its a saying you hear a lot in animal rescue and its worth pointing out especially on a rescue like this with tons of moving parts, delays, and people. The “Fab 4” in Kentucky as our director Mary Kennedy Withrow likes to call them, Michele Coldwell, Tonya Spencer, Mitza Smith, and Dori McCalvin; your 4 are incredible! The mission started with less animals but with the weather delay and shelter losing water causing a delay these 4 worked hard to add more to the trip. From 12 to 26. Talk about making lemonade out of lemons. We have officially adopted you 4 into the PAART family.
24 of the 26 are coming to Pittsburgh to the Beaver County Humane Society, Paws over Pittsburgh, and Pet Search. The two German Shepards are going to Char-Wills German Shepherd Rescue in Philly. Thank you to everyone at the Morgan County Humane Society, the Wolfe County Animal Shelter, and the Albany County Shelter.
And one more thing….Lets all congratulate Kate on her 100th animal saved! Good work Kate. We are lucky to have you on the team.
